Commercial Pilot Requirements

To qualify for a commercial pilot's license, an applicant must:

  1. Be at least 18 years of age
  2. Hold a current FAA medical
  3. Log a total of 250 hours which must include:
    • 100 hours PIC and include:
      • 50 hours cross country
    • 20 hours dual instruction with a qualified instructor and must include:
      • 10 hours in a complex airplane
      • 10 hours of simulated instrument time
      • 2 hours day time cross country
      • 2 hours of night time cross country
      • 3 hours of practical test preparation within 2 calendar months
    • 10 hours of solo time and must include:
      • 5 hours of night flight
      • 300 nautical miles to three different locations
      • 10 Take offs and landings at tower controlled airports
  4. Pass a written test
  5. Pass a paractical check ride
